Employment Offer: Research Assistant for the POPREBEL Horizon2020 project (Part-time)

The Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland takes part in the exciting project in the framework of the Horizon2020 Research and Innovation Actions,  “Populist rebellion against modernity in 21st-century Eastern Europe: neo-traditionalism and neo-feudalism” (POPREBEL). The consortium of six universities from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe is coordinated by prof. Jan Kubik and the University College London. The consortium members are our long-lasting partners in the region: Charles University in Prague, Corvinus University in Budapest, University of Belgrade and University of Tartu. The aim of this interdisciplinary project is to focus on explaining and contextualising the recent rise of populism in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) from a variety of perspectives: social, cultural, political and economic ones. The Jagiellonian University team of researchers is looking for four Research Assistants to take part in the project.

The position

The Research Assistant is supposed to support academics leading the projects and subprojects, working part-time (c. 78 hours per month) on the assigned tasks. The Research Assistant will be hired on the position of asystent naukowy (without any didactic duties) at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, on a regular contract (umowa o pracę), according to local pay grade. It is a limited-time contract for 11 months, starting as soon as possible.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Undertake research in support of the research projects designed and conceptualised by academics that are members of the Krakow POPREBEL team.
  2. To gather, process and analyse qualitative data.
  3. Attend meetings with research supervisors, Work Package leaders and other members of the team.
  4. Prepare progress reports, research reports, transcripts, and similar documents, as required.
  5. Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by the Scientist-in-Charge.

Person Specification

  1. A very good Undergraduate degree and a postgraduate Master’s degree, preferably in social sciences.
  2. Previous research experience in a relevant field is welcome.
  3. Highly proficient English language skills.
  4. Preferably – native or near native speaker of Polish.
  5. Knowledge of other languages of the region will be an advantage.
  6. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  7. Excellent team player.
