The MA in East European and Eurasian Studies (MIREES) is a joint programme conducted by the University of Bologna, Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, and the University of Zagreb, with the Jagiellonian University in Kraków as an associate partner.
This interdisciplinary programme trains experts in the Eurasian region, equipping students with in-depth, first-hand knowledge through an international teaching staff and a period of study abroad. The programme awards a joint degree and offers numerous career opportunities.
Taught entirely in English, the curriculum covers political, sociological, historical, linguistic, and economic aspects of Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Russia, and China, also incorporating a comparative perspective. Students benefit from lectures by international experts and hands-on workshops, fostering both academic specialization and practical professional skills.
At the beginning of the second year, students undertake a mobility period abroad at one of the partner or associate universities that recognize the joint degree. This experience enhances their cultural and linguistic immersion, deepens their understanding of the Eurasian region, and expands opportunities for further study and professional engagement abroad.
